The principal items in dispute were wages and definition of certain classes of work. The union asked For the following rates of wages, the present award rates being given in parentheses: —Senior inspectors. £7 a week; inspectors, £6 10s; meter readers and meter fixers, £5; foremen meter fixers, £5 15s; patrolmen, £5 10s or 2s 6d an liotirj loremau (overhead and underground). £5 10s or 2s Gd (2s Aid I; cable jointers, £5 lOs or 2s (id (2s 2d) ; linesman. £5 4s Gd or 2s d,l (2s ltd); lint-sunn ft assistant-; and cable jointers' assistants, £4 15s (id or 2s 2d ils lhl); cable layers' assistnnfs. £4 15s Gd or 2s 2d (Is' Jof,d). 'The union also asked for the inclusion of inspectors, patrolmen. and meter readers, and for a new definition of the work of linesmen's assistants, including a wide variety of operations. Counsel for eight inspectors, thirteen mi'ler readers, and seven meter fixers employed by the Auckland Rower Hoard aski-il that those classes of workers be exempted. Decision was reserved.
