CHAIRMAN OF DIRECTORS IN AUCKLAND

AUCKLAND, 11th October.
Mr B. Seobohm Rowntree, chairman of the Board of Directors thai controls the firm of 'Rowntree and Co., York, England, arrived in Auckland to-day by the Niagara on his way to Australia. Sir Rowntree is the head of an organisation that employs 7000 workers. He is also the author of a number of books on social and economic questions. During the war Mr Rowntree was the director of the welfare department of the Ministry of Munitions, which was responsible for the conditions of work in 3000 munition factories. . In 1917 he was appointed a member of the Committee of Reconstruction, which was established to consider post-war problems. He is at present on a business trip round the world. On his way through Canada he acquired a large factory in Toronto for the purpose of establishing a plant to manufacture the firm's goods in America. Mr Rowntree is now studying the markets in Australia, India and elsewhere.
