ROAD RACE

MELBOURNE, Oct. 10,

Despite adverse weather conditions 110 cyclists participated in the Warr-linmbool-'Melbourne road race. “The roads were rough and soaked by heavy lain, and until Geelong was reached fast times were impossible. There a following wind helped the fillers. The race resulted : L. Einsidol (.Moiiomieth, \ ictoria), 4S minutes, 1, S hours 1(1 minutes 9 seconds; JJ. J. Andrews (Fairfield Victoria) 54 minutes, 2; A. G. Tammer (Albert Park, Victoria), 48 minutes, 3. TI. Opperman (Victoria), scratch man, secured the fastest time in 7 hours 36 minutes 10 seconds. There was only one accident, .Staples (New South Wales) badly gashing his head when befell. He dressed the wound himself and continued the race.

Attempts to break the hundred miles record established by Beasley last year were futile as the roads were too heavy. The race was won on the post by one inch, with fifty yards between second and third.

The amateur Colac to Melbourne road race resulted: T. H. Marshall (Queensland) 13 minutes, 1: W. Charttoil (Victoria) 13 minutes, 2; F. Williams '(Victoria) 17 minutes, 3. The race was ridden in tight, vain throughout. Marshall won in 4 hours 19 minutes 45 seconds, which was alsothe fastest time. One minute separated the first and second riders.
