LONDON WOOL SALES

The Department of Agriculture has received the .following cablegram, dated the 7th inst., from tlie High Commissioner for New Zealand, London Wool sales closed yesterday (Wednesday), 165,000 bales catalogue, of which 140,000 sold, Continent, taking 76,000, America. 1,000, Home trade 63,000. Foature of series was strong Continental demand. Home buyers at first reserved, but more active later. Compared with last closing rates merino on average 5 per cent, fine crossbred 7 1, per cent to 10 per cent, medium and coarse crossbred per cent higher. FROZEN MEAT MARKET Messrs Levin and Co. Ltd. have received the following cable from their London agents dated Btli October 1926: Frozen meat quotations (prices on a “delivercd” basis, i.e. including storage charges, cartage, tolls, etc.) —Down lambs 28/42 s nil; best North Island 28/42’s per lb; ordinary North Island 28/42’s per lb; second quality lambs 9/,d ; best North Island wether sheep, 48/64’s, 6gd per lb; 64/72’s SZtl per lb; culinary 48/64’s 6 l-8d per lb; North Island ewes 4/,d per lh ; 64/72’s per lb; New Zealand prime ox beef 160/220’s 4.R1 per Hi. The demand for lamb is much reduced by high prices. The market for mutton is showing a better tendency.
