The name of Mr C. G. Wilson, of Wellington, is being mentioned as a. likely manager of the New Zealand cricket team to visit England next year. Mr Wilson is well known in cricket circles throughout the Dominion. He came from Melbourne nearly 25 years ago, being stationed at Inve.rcargill, and afterwards at Dunedin and Wellington. For 20 years he has been on cricket executives; he has on many occasions captained provincial sides; and has time and again acted as manager of touring teams. Dr Knight, of Wellington, chairman of directors of the Cement Company, who has been visiting the works at Tnknka, left for Wellington fast evening. Mr L. .1. D'Arcy Irvine of the Lands and Survey Department was farewelled last week by his fellow officers on the eve of his retirement on superannuation. Mr Waters, the Commissioner, made the presentation, consisting of a suitably engraved watch and smokers' requisites, and referred to the kindly feeling among the staff towards Mr Irvine and his ability and courtesy to all who came in contact with him. Ihere was a very representative gatheroig. At the close of the proceedings "For he's a Jolly Good Fellow" was sung. Mr Irvine in a few well chosen wc ids suitably responded.
