A MILD EPIDEMIC A 48 HOUR ATTACK (By Telegraph.—Special to The Mail, AUCKLAND, This Day A mild epidemic influenza is going (lirougli Samoa at the present time, says the Apia correspondent of the Herald. No one seems to know how it started. American Samoa lias had the com, plaint rather badly, and it is still bad in Tutuila. All tiag-raising-day celebrations and other functions were postponed, so that, the danger of a serious outbreak would be obviated. Some of the doctors have been seized by the epidemic. Fortunately the attacks last on the average, only 48 hours and on the fourth day, the patient is fit for work again. In a few cases the sufferer has had to go to bed for a week. No deaths have been reported from the epidemic. The excessive spell of dry weather is blamed for the sickness.
