A Wellington Press Association telegram reports the death of Mr Francis Siiley, a well-known Wellington citizen, aged 91. He .was one time Mayor of .Melrose. He was horn in Perth and came to Sydney. He was engaged as managing clerk to Bethune and Hunter, then the most prominent merchants in Wellington. Afterwards Mr Sidey engaged in the auctioneering business for a number of years. He was interested in militia work and was one of the oldest, members of the Masonic craft in New Zealand^ —Press Association.
Among arrivals at the (Masonic Hotel are;—Messrs Lemon, Prince, McCarthy, T’rott. Knowles, Potter, Hudson, llabbagv, 1 iesseltine, Mr and . Mrs Aldous, Mr and Mrs Roberts (Wellington); Messrs Frost. Holmes, and Petheridge (Christchurch); and All* Moffatl (Reefton).
Mrs M. A. Buckley, widow of General Augustus Buckley, of the Indian Army, who died recently in Wellington, left £509 each to the Crippled Children in London Society, the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Society, and the New Zealand Blind Institute, and £IOOO * to the Barnardo Home, when the life inferest falls in. The same charities will share in the residuary estate later on.-r-I’ress Association.
To day's arrivals at the Commercial Hotel include Messrs Prentice, Tansiev, Marshall and Briggs (Wellington) ; Mr Phillip Lewis (Auckland), Mr Coxhill (Timaru), and Mr and (Mrs McTaggart- (Mntueka).
A Orovmouth Press Assocation telegram reports the death of Mr Adam Blair, aged 75, the oldest- member of the Grey County Council. He was a prominent sawmiller, and also the oldest member of the Grevmouth Jockey Club. He arrived on the Coast m 1860.
The death occurred at Palmerston North last evening of Charles A. M. llirtzell, a veteran of the Maori wars, and a survivor of the engagement at Te Ngutu o te Manu, in which Yon Tompskv was killed. Deceased had been curator at the museum for many years. —Press Association.
