(Rec. June 28, 12.10 p.m.) LONDON, June 27. Obituary.—Lord, Jellicoe’s aunL, Miss Catherine Jellicoe; aged 104. MR WILLIAM BUNTEN The death occurred on Saturday afternoon, at the age of 52 of Mr William Bunten, of Wakapnaka. Deceased, who was bom in Glasgow "(Scotland), emigrated to New Zealand 32 years ago, settling in Otago, where he engaged in farming for a number of years. Failing health, however, necessitated lighter manual employment-, and he went into business in Balclutha, where he took an active interest in local affairs, filling the Mayoral chair far a period from which he retired on account of his health. Deceased came to Nelson seven years ago, and purchased Mr D. Boon's farm at Wakapuaka, and engaged in sheep and dairy farming. He took a keen interest in tne district, and entered actively into any movement to- forward the interests of the community. In his younger days the late Mr Bunten wag a well-known athlete, being prominent in football, tennis, running, and shooting. He was also a lover of horses, and at the time of his death was President of the Nelson Trotting Club and a steward of the Nelson Jockey Club. He also actively engaged in lawn tennis, and was mainly responsible for its -revival, in the Wakapuaka district. Flowers also held an absorbing for him, and as a member of the Nelson Horticultural Society, he was a prominent exhibitor, especially in the rose section, winning the ‘championship in 1921 and 1924. Deceased saw service in the Boer War, joining up with the First Contingent.

While residing in Nelson the late Mr Bunten made many friends, and won the respect of. all he came in contact with. He is survived by a widow, who will have general sympathy in her bereavement
