A RECORD FLIGHT
BALLOONISTS' THRILLS ALTITUDE OF 19,000 FEET LONDON, June 4 A Stockkhohn message states that the American balloon Goodyear in., which won the Gordon Bennett Cup race this week travelling 527 miles before it landed at Soeldeborg, had a most thrilling flight of 41h. 11m., which the pilot, Van Orman, claims is a record. Tho balloon was drifting over the North Sea at a. height of 300 ft., when it commenced to sink. Ballast was throwi out and' the balloon drifted over tho Baltic Sea, where it was caught in a rainstorm. Tn order to escape the storm, more ballast- was jettisoned, causing the balloon to ascend to 19,000 ft. This compelled the use of oxygen, after which the aeronauts found themselves on the Swedisl; coast, and, the ballast being exhausted, they Were* \compqllecl to land.
