BURIED “FLOWER CITY”
EXCAVATIONS IN INDIA CALCUTTA, June 3. The Government of India has finished funds for the excavation of the ancient city of Patalinputra. Work will begin early next year. Pataliaputra, a city of ancient India, was the capital of the kingdom of 'Magadha. It was situated at the junctoin of the Son River with the Ganges, imar the site of the modern city of Patffa. It was the chief city of the Namda and Maurya dynasties, and is famous as the residence of Megasthenes during his stay in India. It was also called Pushpapura and Kusumapura, both terms meaning “Flower City.”
