Next came llanutey 3/59/0 2-5, Longman 4/0/0 1-5, Craig 4/44/7. Simpson put up a second lap record of 32 minutes 9 seconds, average speed 70.43. Moller. a New Zealander, retired in the fifth lap owing to engine trouble. Altogether ,30 retired from 57 starters. There were many crashes, but nothing worse than slight concussion was reported.
