CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH

As reported in last night’s paper the above Church carried through a successful variety, sale yesterday.; The various stall-holders reported at the close of proceedings a. substantial ingathering of funds, and it will now be possible to proceed with further renovations. During the evening a. grand .concert was held in,.Hie' Church',;-the attendahbe being very encouraging. A fine array of local artistes had come forward to assist, including a mandolin duet, monologues, vocal duets and solos, violin solo, and elocutionary numbers. Mrs N. Vercoe did good work as accompanist, assisted by Mesdames Marks, Robertson, Curry and McEwan. During the interval the Rev. Harold J. Ralph expressed sincere thanks to all the willing helpers. A feature of the sale was a cake competition, the following ladies’ entries proving to be of the prize-winning quality, according to the judgment of the professional connoisseur :

Fruit cake, Mrs Cross, first prize; coffee cake, Airs Burton; plain sponge, Mrs Stanton; decorated sponge, Airs Hart; pastries, Ist and 2nd prizes, Mrs Alerrit; nut loaf, Airs Reitli; plain scones, Mrs Busch 1„ Mrs, Vercoe 2.
