POISONOUS GAS
TRAGIC OCCURRENCE ON ( ' WHALER (Unite 1 Press Association.; V INVERCARGILL, This Day. The captain of the Star fleet of whalers Mias been informed thaj. a mishap of a serious nature occurred on the Sir . James Clark Ross. while at New York, when three seamen succumbed to poisonous gas. The ship had completed discharge of oil and the three men descended an empty tank. They were quickly overcome and when brought to the deck, expired. Captgm Anderson descended to their aid, but fell unconscious, and was with difficulty revived after being brought on deck.
