Richmond won the championship, defeating Evans (Hutt) 7 and 5. At the conclusion of the games a big crowd gathered at the club for the presentation of prizes. Mr 11. C. Cock, President of tin- Nelson Club, before asking Mrs. Cock to present the prizes, expressed the pleasure it gave the club to see so many visitors present—the number of which was increasing every year. He was pleased to see mat the prizes had been well distributed, and congratulated Richmond on winning Hie championship. (Applause). Mr Cock also acknowledged the good offices of Air Alabin, who had acted as “publioity agent” in Wellington with such good results. Air Cock also congratulated the runner-up (Evans) and the other prize-winners. Mrs Cock then presented the prizes. The throng was a merry one. Richmond Was greeted with "Eor lie’s a Jolly Good Fellow” and cheers: while "Chic” Evans, was also enthusiastically honoured., A Napier representative, formerly a Nelson resident,, who was resplendent in a pair of striking ‘ plus fours,” returned with his prize to the tune of ‘‘flaggy Breeches.” Several other little ‘‘ditties” served to illustrate the good humour of the mnvd; and shown! incidentally how all had enjoyed the tournament. Air Alabin, of the Miramar Club, made a. happy little speech in acknowledging the good time generally the visitors had had. Cheers were given for the President, Mrs. Cock, and the Secretary (Air N. As briefly stated in last, night’s issue Richmond beat- Huggins and Evans (Hutt) beat Alason (Hutt) in the semifinals. ; and. Richmond beat Evans in the final , Richmond and Huggins (the holder) had a. very hard fight, there being at no. time a difference of more than one up between them. At the turn Huggins was one up, going out in 38, against 37 (bogey) by bis oponent. At the seventeenth Richmond was dormy one, but Huggins won the long hole, with a six against, a seven. On going to the 19 (first hole) Richmond reached the green in two, and won the hole and the match. .In the semi-final against Alason (Hutt) Evans played good golf, going out in bogey (37); and doing the next five..holes in bogey. Alason went out in 39. . Tilt* final was expected to produce a close, finish; but Richmond, who with; the exception of the 2nd hole, played j at the top of his form, had the game at all times well in band and ran out n comfortable winner. Evans failed to reproduce his form against Alason in tb previous match. At the first hole Richmond won with a four against a live. The next hole was an indifferent one for both players, Evans winning with a six against a seven. As a matter of fact this was the only hole where, Richmond failed to maintain bis form. ' He won the next two. Evans’ sllbt from the fourth tee landing in a bunker costing him three to get out. The short fifth was halved in three. At the sixth (477 yards) Richmond won with a perfect four; and at the turn was five up, going out in one under bogey. The game was taken to the 13th green, where Richmond won the match and the championship by 7 up and 5. The winer put in some particularly good work on the greens, sinking several long putts. His opponent never appeared to settle down, and failed to take advantage of one or two .chances. Richmond’s card read :—Out : 4 7 4 3 3 4 5 2 4—36. In 14 5 4 4. Previous winners: 1921, N.
