CHRISTCHURCH. April 6. The tiny girl patient at the Christchurch Hospital who arrived there from the Chatham Islands on March 15, has been operated on and a piece of bone removed her brain. Although a small part <«f the brain is also missing the little girl is as well and happy as she was before her unfortunate accident. On March 16, the day after Dorothy \ era •Jacobs arrived at the Christchurch Hospital. the Sun published an account ot tier accident. The story is one of amazing courage of the tiny girl and of the success of modeni surgery. On February 20th the little- girl was kicked c'ti the head by a. horse. The blow was so severe that the middle part of the forehead was crushed in and a tiny part of the brain oozed out. The accident happened on the Chatham Islands, where Dorothy, who is only three years old, Jived with her parents. On March 15 the little patient arrived at the Christchurch Hospital, where she had been sent by the Chatham Islands (lector, who had taken care of her until the Tees was ready to sail for New 'Zealand. As soon as Dorothy was strong enough the operation was performed and the piece of dead bone- was removed from the brain. To-day the- little girl is well and happy. The wound is healing splendidly, though it will not be known for perhaps some years whether her faculties have been interfered with. Dorothy has borne the operations with amazing fortitude.
