FIFTIETH ANNIVERSARY The Mercantile Gazette nf New Zealand celebrated is jubilee on March 31. It was established'in 1876 by Mr R. T. Wheeler, of Duncdin, as a demi-octavo four-page paper, until January, 1882, when, in consequence of its having taken over the New Zealand Trade Protection Gazette, the publication was known as The Mercantile and Bankruptcy Gazette of New Zealand. On, December 16, 1886, Mr R. T. Wheeler entered into partnership with Messrs T. G. Russell and A. V. de Voa-U.x, of Ghristchurch, proprietors of The Weekly Advertiser., Commercial Register and Industrial Gazette published in Ghristchurch, where it had been established for some years, and this journal was then incorporated with The Mercantile and Bankruptcy Gazette of .New Zealand as from January 1, 1887, and that name was continued until December 1904, when the paper reverted to its original title of The Mercanlile Gazette of New Zealand. jfo November, 1905, The Mercantile Record—n contemporary journal pub lifihed by the New Zealand Times Co., Ltd.. of Welling;!on—bocame a. part of j.be publication. The New Zealand Trade Review and Price Current published by Mr C. W. Carroll- was also , absorbed in August 1922 (its 50th vear of issue) by The Mercantile Gazelle of New Zealand. Mr T. G. Russell, of Chrisfchiirch. has been associated with The Mercantile Gazette since 1886. and managing director of the Trade Auxiliary Conn pany of New Zealand I.ld. (he proprie tors of the paper since the dale of Ihe company's ircorporation. The Gazelte was for a lung time puhlistied for the owners by Messrs Willis and Aiken.
