Wattle is good Anglo-Saxon for twig, and recalls the plaited bran cites of which our forefathers built, their bids. Tennyson refers to a wattle church. Tho old pikemen were called wattle boys, and wattle races were run in which “those who ran fastest, receiver] fewest stripes" from the wattle branch. In Shetland, wattle meant entertainment, and had no connection with twigs flowers. Australia lias tint only several varieties of wattle, or acacia. but a wattle bird.
