NO SETTLEMENT

No settlement was reached at the compulsory conference between Hie Commonwealth Steamship Owners’ Association and the Watersiders Vedcraiinn summoned by Mr .lustice Rowers. The registrar of Ihe ci.url issued a state men! which ravs that all mailers in dis pule were discussed al length hill neither side would make concessions and the cotifercnee was adjourned. The employers maintained that the union was committing breaches of the Act and award at a number of ports throughout tiie Commonwealth. The Union, in reply, contended that the men had taken matters into their own hands. Even when the general secretary, who acted for the committee of management, directed them to comply with the a Will'll the men had ro i list'd to do so.
