HEAVY GALE
MUCH DAMAGE AT AUCKLAND trJBUIT CROPS SUFFER SEVERELY SMALL CRAFT DRIVEN ASHORE (oait«4 Prod* Association.) AUCKLAND. This Day. A heavy south-easterly gale set in last night and continued to-day with increasing fury. Considerable damage was done ashore to buildings, many windows being blown in. Fi'iiit crops suffered severely, ripening fruit beino; stripped from many ,fcrees. • The harbour felt the full force of the gale, and big waves are washing r<n the shores of various bays. A number of small craft were driven ashore, and severely damaged. On the low level railway along the harbour front the embankment is standing up to it well, but it has been found necessary to lash down the service lines. Three launches and yachts which were adrift in mid-harbour were rescued by tow boats.;
