CAUGHT IN ICEFIELD
GERMAN STEAMERS IN GULF OF FINLAND (By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) (Australian & N.Z. Cable Association) LONDON, Jan. 11. The Daily Express Berlin correspondent reports that eighteen German steamers from Leningrad were caught- in the.icefield in the Gulf of Finland. -Much anxiety is felt as to their safety, as they are running short of coal and focal. The German Ambassador in Moscow is urging Russia to carry provisions to the icebound ships by* aeroplane. /Meanwhile the German Government sent the heavy battleship Hessen with an icebreaker to smash a way through the ice.
