THE BIBLE IN SCHOOLS QUESTION
(To the Editor.)
Sir.—ln an effort which he appeals to be making to secure support for the Coates Government and incidentally Mr Gilbert, a correspondent- signing himself "A Xew Zealander.” discourses in last night's Mail on the Bible in Schools question. Well might Mr Gilbert say
"Save me from my friends." In answer I should like to ask four question. 1. Does "A Xew Zealander" know that the whole three Nelson candidates are pledged to a free, secular and compulsory education system? 2. Does "A Xew Zealander" know that the present Prime Minister. Mr > cates, voted against Mr Isitt’s Exercis- !••• in Schools Bill, and that Mr Coates is also pledged to a "free, secular and com pulsory’ education system ? <5. Does "A New Zealander" know ‘bat under the present Nelson system Bible lessons can be given in nearly akl State primary sc,heels in New Zealand? 4. Does “A New Zealander" rcallv know anything about 'the Bible in Schools question? J am, etc.,
