Mr Coates opened the Opunaki-Teroti line yesterday. He said that though started in 1915 the work had to be suspended for some time during tlie war. During the day lie addressed a. meeting at Lltham and at night spoke here and at Stratford, receiving a warm welcome and voles of confidence everywhere.

A 1922 PAMPHLET

DUNEDIN, This Day

Somewhat sensational statements made by Mr A. H. Vile, editor of the North Otago Times, concerning a pamphlet lie issued three years ago as the Liberal-Labour organiser*, were denied l*y Mr Forbes, who passed through Dunedin yesterday. Mr Vile states that he pamphlet was approved by Mr Willord in writing, and Mr Veit-ch led him to understand that the executive was delighted with the publication, yetnhen a member in the House, now a Minister, challenged the pamphlet-, Mr Wolford repudiated it, stating that jl- - unauthorised, and the latter wired Mr Vile sating that he was compelled to pursue that course because certain references to the* wheat subsidy might jeopardise Mr Witty’s seat. Mr Forbes and Mr* Sidey stale that the pamphlet Mils never submitted to the executive, and when Mr Forbes read it, he at once saw All* Wilford and informed him that T was unauthorised and objected to it. Mr Wilford said the pamphlet- was unauthorised, and had wired Mr Vile that lie must cut out anything officially con,r ecting the party with it. So far as li e understood Air Vile issued the pamphlet on his own initiative.
