July 17._ The prospects of a settlement- in t'ne shipping dispute are brighter. Ibe Shipowners’ Association announced thatii would meet the Trades Hall Disputes Committee oil Tuesday, in conference, with a view to arriving at a settlement. The proposed basis of settlement is that the transport group guarantees that job control shall not he practised by the Seamen’s Union. The shipowners undertake to place on the articles a statement. that- the terms of the cancelled award be observed, two clauses of this •award to be altered enabling the shipowners to penalise crews attempting job control: the altered clauses to be placed iu the articles and the seamen to sign the agreement.
