WEIGHTS AND MEASURES BILL
NEW PROVISIONS
(From Our Parliamentary Correspondent; WELLINGTON, This Day The Weights and Measures Bill, introduced into the House last evening pro- \ ides that Imperial standards must, be observed in New Zealand under a penalty of £lO, except gold, silver, precious stones, drugs arid precious metals. Goods are to be sold by avoirdupois weight. Goods subject to 'variation by climate are to be. marked .net weight when packed. Charcoal, coal and coke are to be sold only by welight. The forging of weights is punishable by a penalty up to £IOO and imprisonment up to two months may be imposed if there lias been intent to defraud, the conviction to be published. Power is given to bring in the metric system by proclamation.
