When the motion to> suspend the standing orders to allow an amendment of the Navigation Act was taken in the Senate, it was found that another vote was needed to secure the necessary absolute majority. Senator Guthrie, who was entertaining the Governor at a coursing meeting in Geelongi was summoned by urgent telegram. He secured an aeroplane and flew to -Melbourne, being in time to participate in the division.
