TURF NOTES

NELSON JOCKEY CLUB The annual meeting of the Nelson Jockey Club will take place on Friday the 24th July. The dates granted by the Racing Conference for the coming racing season are Friday and Saturday the stii au.d 6th of March. This year an alteration will take place in the sequence of the meetings, and this time the Marlborough meeting will come a week before Nelson instead of the other way about as lias been the cat-e for some years past. The Marlborough Club has for a long time been endeavouring to race before Nelson, and the Racing Conference also have, been inclined to bring '.lris about. The Nelson Committee are. of opinion that it will not'detrimentally affect our meeting in any way.

The new Motueka Racing Club has applied for the Wednesday following the Nelson meeting.

NELSON TROTTING CLUB

The annual meeting of the Trotting Club will be held on Saturday the 25th July. The most important- developments of course have taken place' with regard to this Club’s activities of late due to the fact that the Club has been granted an extra day’s? permit. This extra permit was made use of for the present racing season (which ends on the 31st July; on the 9th May in the shape of an extra one day’s meeting, but for the coming season the Club has been successful in securing Friday and Saturday the 20th and 2lff November, thus making the Club’s first two-day meeting. With ordinary luck the Club should now make great progress as the Nelson meeting will follow Grevmontli and Christchurch and will still leave plenty of time for other South Island owners to rcacli tlie Dunedin meeting. Trotting owners everywhere are very pleased with tiie new dates obtained by Nelson, and given anything like fine weather the. next- meeting should be a record one .in every wav.
