CHARGE OF RUM RUNNING
A MAYOR INDICTED

NEW YORK, July ,13,-, John Madden, Mayor of Sah jSilito, a suburb of San Francisco, was indicted on a charge- of rum running. Ollier officials of the municipality and the State Government are involved, in- this latest scandal, which is causing .a sensation. Several members of wealthy and prominent families are also'said tes be involved as suspected leaders of a gang engaged in illicit liquor dealings ■ The charges are the outcome of, the; recent blowing up of the liquor- sdpply ship (.'timet and the killing the /same day of Mae Garachi, wife of a wealthy Italian. Her body was found on thebeach, evidently the scene of a battle between rival gangs of rum runners.
