A man giving the name of Tom Watson, boarding at a shop in King Street, fatally shot Mrs Merle Shelton, a waitress at the establishment, and then shot himself and died shortly afterwards. Among the men’s effects were found war medals and a union member's ticket bearing the name of T. Weathered.
