A wife’-' futile efforts to reform her husband were dc4vrihcd during the hearing of a divorce suit brought before Mr .Justice Swift. Mrs Lilian Victoria. Baird Douglas, of London, sought the dissolution of her marriage on the ground of the misconduct of her husband, Archibald Sholto Donald Band-Douglas?. The charge was not denied.
Mis Baird-Douglas said the marriage took place in June, 1919. Her husband gave way to intemperance and treated her with great cruelty, assaulting her "with sticks and things) of that kind.’’ Whiie they were in Switzerland he took away her passport- so that she could not. get a wav from him.
She tried to reform him, and in April, 1921. she obtained work with the British Committee 'engaged in relief work .11 Warsaw, where hei hush,and joined iter. Owing to his cruelly. she was obliged In leave him in October. 1922. Mr Cotes l’reedv : l think there, was a big otiarrel : lie burned your clotlien and t ried lo poison you '!—He did. Evidence as to Captain Baird Douglas s misconduit in Warsaw was read, and a decree nisi, with costs, granted.
