SUCCESS OF'SECOND BOB!
Advice lias been received in Auckland from Air ,T. A. Spencer that the Mandated Development Companzy has struck oil in thy No. 2 bore at Alatapau, New Guinea, at a depth of 430 feet. 'I Ivis company was granted, a license bv the Australian Government in February. 1924. to prospect for coal and nil over the area of 10C0 square miles in the mandated territory of New Guinea. Idle first prospecting expedition, under the leadership of Air .Spencer. and including Air E. A. Briggs, of .Sydney l Diversity, as geologist, demonstrated the existence of oil of high quality. Farlv in .June, oil was struck at a depth of 42ft.. and after hulk samples had been taken the well was sealed. Subsequently the company undertook further prospecting operations. with the result that oil has again been struck.
Air Spencer is the geologist who re looted upon the .Murchison oil areas.
