CARE OF A CHILD’S MOUTH
No art or artifice can make a large mouth into a small one. but, a great deal can bo done to prevent a large mouth from looking larger than it really is, and also to prevent an ordinary mouth from becoming an ugly one. Parents often forget that, it is a part of their duty to see after their children s looks as well as their health, education, and so on. Especially is this necessary in the ease oj girls. The a-p----pca-rance oi «<. girl is sovnetimt’S p/iugo or marred while"*she is still quite young particularly with regard to hor mouth. No mouth can be pretty if l-ho upper teeth aro no very prominent that they nosh forward the fop lip. .and rest them-
selves obtrusively on the tower one. Phis is a state of things which may be prevented, but the prevention is only, possible in childhood. Directly it is seen that a child's second teeth project, or arc inclined to project or to overlap one another, that child should be, taken to an experienced dentist. If attention
is given in time, and a suitable, plate is made to push back the teeth that ara in danger of protecting, the whole contour of the month may bo saved from 'becoming permanently ugly. Of course, projecting teeth may be removed in later life and replaced by artificial teeth which do not project- over the lip, but the effect on * the appearance of the mouth will never be the same as if, by the use of a simple contrivance in youth, the projection of the teeth had been entirely ore.vented. Crowded and overlapping teeth alwa-vs spoil the beauty of tho month. This'often happens when i-V mouth and jawsj arc small anti the teeth rather big and there is not room for tho latter to grow in ari even row. The removal of a couple of teeth, il done early enough, entirely prevents this deformity. which, though a small one, is a considerable bar to the. beauty oi the mold li.
I’.iiciils should lake special care to see (hat the child's teeth are kept white. Nothing lakes more from anyone s appearance than a row of film-covered teeth.
