DOOR MfOKHN IN WITH PICK Mliilc mi da tv eariy in tJi <* morning in Queen-street, Onefmngii, Constable I'utt observed a broken gliiies panel in a shop door, and immediately proceeded to investigate, says the Auckland Star. He saw ;l man. searching for something behind the counter, and called to him to come out. Instead doing so, the man hid himself, but not- for long, as Constable Putt entered tile shop and, hopping over the counter, found him out and arrested him. Prisoner said his name was Robert Ray, and that he lived at Otahuhu. lie was a married man with a family, and had been out ol work for three weeks. He wanted loud lor his children. He had not. taken anything out of tin l grocer's shop.
Ray came before the Court at Oneliiinga the next morning. Sergeant ,7. A. Cruieks'luuik said defendant had broken the glass panel with an iron pick, which had been found in the shop, lie had made inquiries at- Otahuhu for Mrs Ray, but she could not be found, and it looked as if defendant bad not told the truth, for when told that- his wife could not be found at (be address given, he said they used to live at Otahuhu. Prisoner was remanded b\ the presiding justice. Mr J. Raking, for a week, to enable the police to make further inquiries . lie was allowed bail in two sureties of £IOO each, or one of £2OO.
