CANTERBUBY MARKETS (United Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, July 10. The wheat returns published early in the week are confirming the early season forecasts that the average yield in Canterbury of 331 bushels per acre and for the Dominion of 33 bsuhels is in advance fo the official and some otlict estimates. Most interest centres around the oats mai'ket. Any idea that may have pro vailed that the crop would be a- short one has been dispelled by the latest official returns. Tile Dominion threshings leported to mid-June—not the actual threshings which materially would swell the figure—are over 5,000,000 bsuhels. If the actual threshings were reported, the total would probably be another million bushels, and in addition, there is still a quantity in stack which may be threshed. The changed viewpoint the figures have brought about in the soutli is evidenced by the fact that offers are now free from that quarter at 4/6 through store for A Gallons, and 4/2 for B’s, with buyers hard to find. Potato activity has subsided to some extent. Quotations at the moment for July shipment are £5 15s to £6. The Katoa is due to leave Lyttelton on Tuesday, but as the stores sre cleared out of stocks and as potatoes cannot be dug for some time and the pits will not be opened for a while, the prospects of a sufficient shipment to meet requirements is uncertain. Quotations totally on trucks are to £4 10s, with little offering. There has been a sharp rise in the price of onions, and purchases have been made at from £9 10s to £lO on trucks, sacks extra. There are few local onions available, the season being about over. WELLINGTON MARKETS Messrs A. G. Wallace and Co., report as follows on the Wellington fruit and produce market: — There is now a decided improvement in weather conditions, and with this we reasonably anticipate a correspondingly increased demand for all fancy and choice lines of apples and pears, confidently recommending prompt consignments being made.
