WATER RECEDING
(United Press Association.)
AUCKLAND. This Dav
Conditions are fast, approaching normal at Mercer. The Waikato River is falling rapidly and flood water is steadi jy disappearing. The main railway line is now practically clear of water, though the hack lines and the station yards are still covered to a certain extent. Trains are using the main lines at a. safe speed. Ihe receding waters have left great quantities of silt in the yards and mud and send‘blocked the shunting points. Gangs are now working to clear the vnrds. The interlocking gear has also been damaged by water and will have to be overhauled. Flood water evidently found its way under the platform, which is subsiding in places. i Motor traflie is now able to negotiate the road.
