It is understood that the steamer Kaikeura has been sold to the Italian Shipping Company. She will be handed to the new owners at Genoa on the homeward voyage.
Aft Theodore, speaking at Townsville, said : “There can be nothing wrong in Italians coining to the country. Queensland is sorely in need of population, particularly immigrants for the land, where the Italians were willing to go. The trouble was that they congregated in one or two districts, thus flooding the local mark<@. The remedy lay in spreading them over a larger area. Premier Gillies said that he, concurred in this view.
