HIGHLAND GATHERING ON NEW
YEAR’S DAY
During the week-end the Caledonian Society held a meeting at the Rossiter Boarding House, to make final arrangements for the Highland gathering and concert to be held on New Year's Day .in the Domain. Mr J. T. Brough occupied the chair, about a dozen members being present. The/secretary (Mr O. A. Banner) presented a sketch time table for approval. The timetable is so arranged that from 11 a.im. till- 4.30 p.m. a main event comes on at an interval of 30 minutes. This wds accepted. It was agreed that the piping events commence at 11 a.m. and glancing at noon. t Several subscription lists were handed iiu- and comment was made on the excellent response received from Nelson in regard to trophies and prize money. Motueka Scots are also giving generously. and are determined to make the function a success. The chairman stated that he.bad received a letter from Blenheim to the effect that four car loads of dancers, pipers'and artists were coming through to Motueka for the event. ' Competitors are also expected from Picton, Seddon, Nelson, Richmond, Tapawera and Tarakohe, besides Riwaka and Motuekai.
To meet the needs of the spectators arrangements are being made for a refreshment stall at thy Domain. It was decided to provide, hot water free. The Blenneim visitors will reach Motueka on Wednesday evening and will be accorded a civic reception by the Mayor (Mr J. A. McGlashenl. It was agreed to invite Mr R. P. Hudson, M.P., to attend the reception. The matter of accommodation for visitors was discussed and arrangements
made. Prizes will be presented at the concert on Thursday evening. One of the old Scots of the district is to be asked to act as chief and make the presentations.
