Hides are firm and unaltered. CANTERBURY MARKETS . (.United Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Aug. 15. Business in the grain and produce trade has been practically at a standstill during the week, as it invariably is at Grand National time. The only exception is potatoes. A shortage lias developed in Auckland on account of the delay of consignments from Melbourne, and inquiries for small lots are coming to hand freely from the Northern city. The Navua. which was hooked to sail tomorrow night from Lyttelton, will now leave on Monday, and all her available space, representing probably up to 5000 sacks, lias been tilled. The \Vingaltii leaves later in the. week, and space is being freely booked by iter. Values locally have advanced by over 10s per ton, as the result- of the Northern position, and £5 per ton on trucks lias been paid. Farmers’ f.0.b., s.i., quotations tire from £6 to £6 5s per ton. Growers are now offering more freely and showing a disposition to accept current quotations. The chalf market is firm. Dunedin is again coming on the market, and sales have been, made there at a preriiiumiton local parity. Values locally are about £7 per ton on trucks. There is tt good demand for seed wheat, but as far as oats are concerned there is no geed to offer.

There is some inquiry for cowgrass, but other seeds are quiet.

Tiio New Zealand Meat Producers Board has received a cable from its representative at Buenos Aires, South America, advising the following shipments to the United Kingdom for the fortnight ended 9th August 1924, from Argentine and Uruguay: 162,850 quarters chilled beef, 15,983 quarters frozen beef, 26,310 carcases frozen mutton ,38,467 carcases fiozcn lamb. The quantity shipped to the Continent of Europe during the same period totalled: 103,800 quarers frozen beef, 7,000 carcases frozen mutton 900 carcases frozen lamb.
