ALLEGED ATTEMPTED MURDER
HUSBAND ARRESTED

CHRISTCHURCH ,Aug. 15
In connection with the charge of attempted murder of his wife against John Edward Jeffreys, it is stated that, on a Sunday in July, Jeffreys went out on a pig-shooting expedition,' accompanied by his wife and two children and two Maoris. It is alleged that when they arrived at Glent.ui lie sent the Maoris and the eldest child away, and that while (lie wife was bending down attending to the younger child Jeffreys shoved the woman over a cliff. When the Maoris returned Jeffreys said his wife had fallen down the cliff. They went down and picked her up. She was found in a badly bruised condition a hundred feet below.
