CHARGE WITHDRAWN

Campbell, editor of the Worker's Weekly, was discharged, the Crown accepting the plea that- the article was merely comment on the use of armed forces and the suppression of industrial disputes. It was admitted defendant had an admirable military record. Tlie political bureau of the Communist Party issued a statement that Camp, bell’s'defence would be justification. Itwas proposed to subpoena Messrs MacDonald, Henderson and Clvnes as witnesses for the defence. The withdrawal of the charge was made solely on the responsibility of the Labour Government under severe, pressure, front Messrs Lansbury, Maxton and others.
(Campbell was arrested on a charge of attempting to seduce the army from loyalty to the King by means of an article dealing with tlie army and industrial disputes.)
