RAILWAY EXTENSION
-PROGRESS LEAGUE AND THE GAP
DEPUTATION TO WAIT ON
GOVERNMENT
A considerable portion of yesterday afternoon’s meeting of the Nelson (Progress League was occupied with the -consideration of railway matters. The secretary, Mr E. R. Neale, presented a budget of'correspondence on the matter and stated that he and others were btisily engaged in securing further data. The secretary also stated he had a complete copy of the report made by the last Canterbury delegation which visited the district. This, ''he said, should carr- considerable weight with the representatives who are to make another visit in the near future.
It was decided that the League waiton the Government, at Wellington at an early date to urge upon it the necessity for the speedy, “filling of the gap.” . . In reference to the proposed visit, of the Canterbury Progress League, it was decided to suggest the advisnbloness of postponing the visit until some timo in October, when the’weather and other conditions would be far more favourable.
Tho meeting also decided to secure 1000 more flips of the map, which shows up iu a striking manner the 60 mile gap in the 700 miU railway from Nelson to Invercargill.
