CHINESE TEAM DEFEATED (U-ited Press Association.) PALMERSTON NORTH, July 30. The Chinese team was beaten bj- 1 goal to nil after a fast game. The visitors’ goal keeper came in for an ovation for his fine play. The goal that was scored was not his fault. Chinese residents have given two fine cups, one to the team and one for competition in China.

MEETING OF MANAGEMENT COM MU TEE A meeting of the management committee was held last evening. There were present : -Messrs H. S. Claughton (chairman), J. S. Walter, Preen, Parkinson, Heath, Kerr, Beveridge, Anderson, Stewart, Robinson, and the secretary. The meeting was called to make the necessary arrangements tor a soccer tournament to be held at Victory Square on Monday next, 4th August (Ist Monday in August). it was resolved that a five-a-side competition be heid on that date for senior and junior players. The winning team in the senior competition will he presented with a cup donated by Mr T. Brennan, and the junior team • will receive a football as a prize. Teams entering for these competitions must, notify the secretary not later than. Saturday morning. The matches will start at 1.30 p.m. Twenty minute games will be played : final 30 minutes. Entrance fee for each player will lie senior 1/6, juniors 1/-. A collection will be taken up on the ground to defray expenses. The undermenentioned referees will control the games: Messrs Walter, Claughton, Parker, Preen, Anderson and Cocker. The usual senior and junior cup competitions will take place next. Saturday, 2nd August. Athletic will play Redwoods at Victory Square at 3 p.m. Referee Mr Parker. Hospital will play Thistle at StoTte, 3 p.m. Referee, Mr Claughton. Juniors:—Athletic v. Thistle at Victory Square, o p.m. Referee, Mr Walter.- . The association’s representative team to play Bullet on August 9th are expected to meet at the Y.M.C.A. rooms to-night, for training purposes.
