NELSON RETURNED SOLDIERS’ ASSOCIATION

MEETING OF EXECUTIVE

A meeting of Committees was held on. -Monday evening, when there were present Dr Gray (president), in the chair, Mr Wharton (vice-president). Rev. Blamires, Drs. Bett and Low, Colonel Thoms, Messrs Spear, Oldershaw, Hunter, Jamieson, Watson, Kidson, and the secretary (Mr N. A. \ ercco). Correspondence was read, and the .secretary reported’, upon cases dealt with on behalf of returned men and dependents as follows: —Disabled men, J2; soldiers’ Widow's, 2; other dependents, 2 : other cases, 5. A number of letter of thanks from those concerned were received, and satisfaction was expressed at the outcome of the Association’s efforts. The chairman reported upon the very successful functions held at Murchison during the previous week end, and which were attended bv committee members. He referred to the valuable work of the Murchison secretary and sub-committee, and the fine spirit prevailing among returned men in that district. Notice was received of proposed reunions in other centres at which representatives of the Association were, invited to be present. It was decided unanimously that reunion and smoke concert be held in Nelson City, probably in September, and that preliminary arrangements in connection therewith e put. in hand at once. The secretary stated that work under. the Poppy Day scheme had sommenced on the 10th inst., when ton men "were found employment. Several others had also been assisted by employment in other directions since last meeting. The sub-committee appointed reported that arrangements for the annual ball, to be held during the latter part of August, were well in hand. MajorGeneral Melviil, C. 8., C.M.G., D. 5.0., General Officer Commanding the New Zealand Forces, bad intimated his intention to attend the function. The folio'/in g new members were elected: Rev. g. Corney, Dr Campbell Smith, Messrs C. N. ,Beasley, R. Thurlow, .T. Thompson, and J. Adamson, and one inward transfer was received.
