NELSON ROCK GARDEN SOCIETY

ELECTION OF OFFICERS The adjourned meeting of the Nelson Rock Garden Society was held on Saturday afternoon at the bowling green. It speaks well for the Nelson climate when a meeting can be held in the open in winter under ideal conditions. The idea of rockeries for Nelson has caught on, and judging by the large attendance and enthusiasm, tile Society are going to do good work. The following officers were elected : Patron, Mr G. A. Harkness; patronesses, Mrs R. 13. Jackson and .Mrs Percy Adams; president, Mrs M. M. Moiled elf ; vice-presidents, Messrs A. E. Tasker and \V. C. Davies: committee, Airs C. Alilneiv Mrs R- B. Jackson, All’s H. M. Field, Airs T. A. H. Field, Mrs G. Wastney, Airs J. H. Leggo Alessrs W. H. Savage, Sergt. BaiTctt, E. Blackburn. F. Coleman, T. W. Forster; bon. secrctaiy and treasurer, A. Wilkinson. The president, Mrs Moncrieff, in opening the meeting, spoke highly of the objects that the Society wished to attain and she was prepared to do all she could to assist.

Mr W. C. Davies then took the chair, and called upon Air Wilkinson to explain tlie objects of the Society. The secretary explained as clearly as possible that the scheme was formulated with the following ideals: To assist- members with advice in the making of a rockery; to procure the rock most suitable; To purchase plants from all parts, and as they grow, each member would be supplied with shoots from parent plants; and to approach the Council on the subject of a model rockery on one of the slopes of Church Hiil to be planted by the Society. Air Wilkinson in concluding mention eel that it was not intended to compete with nursery men in any way, as many plants will be procured from them, but as a Society they -should be at perfect liberty to supply and help members.
