COUNTRY PARTY
IN INTERESTS OF THE SMALL FARMER
(By Telegraph.—Special to Tho MailJ CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. The promoters of a Country Party, which was mentioned by a member of a deputation when Mr Massey was in Christchurch, are said to be losing no time in commencing the work of organisation. It is understood that the Kaiapoi seat, at present held by Hon. D. Buddo, will be the object of the Country Party’s attentions at the next election. It is announced that a Reform candidate who has polled well in the last few elections will very probably contest one of these seats or some other in the interests of the new party', but his name is as yet held from publication. There is a party in the North Island with somewhat similar objectives to the Canterbury’s Country Party, which it is said intends to contest seats in the vicinity of Auckland; but the Canterbury men state that they' have had nothing official yet to authorise them to say that the parties will work together at the next election. Their objects are the same —the protection of the interests of the small farmer. The Reform and Liberal parties, they claim, are too much inclined to support the “big men.”
