ANTI-SEMITIC DISTURBANCES
AT VIENNA UNIVERSITY

LONDON, Nov. 20
The Times Vienna correspondent says that a serious disturbance of an antiSemitic character has broken out in Vienna University, following which the University was ordered to close indefinitely. Some' months ago a campaign was‘launched against Jewish stmrsms in Vienmt, but quietened' down. Definite S io-ns of the trouble developing appeared coincidentally with the Bavarian “putsch” las tweek. Hie rector prohibited all students wearing corps colours oi- other insignia in order to check their political ardour. r lhis caused bad blood and two hundred youths, mostly attending the technical colleges, armed with life preservers, knuckle dusters aria like instruments, stormed the university an d forced a way to the lecture rooms, where they compelled the professors to suspend work and ordered the Jewish students to quit the university. Whenever their demands were complied with the youths declared they were satisfied, but- resistance was followed liv forcible ejections, in which many free fights occurred. Similar scenes and disturbances are reported from Gratz.
