Mr Wililam Brooking, an old Taranaki identity and a. Maori War veteran, died at Stratford yesterday, aged 83. He arrived in New' Plymouth in 1842, but since 1890 had lived in the; Stratford district. He was actively interested in—business, ‘ municipal and Masonic matters. He leaves a widow- and two sons.—Press Association.
The engagement is announced of Miss Eileen M. N- Weekes, M.A. (of Canterbury College, Christchurch), only daughter of the former Dean of Nelson, Dr. G. E. Weekes, hnd Mrs Weekes, to Mr Kenneth Morford or Kotagala, Ceylon, son of Mr P. ’ R. Morford, of Brenchley, England. Miss Weekes was recently appointed French mistress at “Erensham,” Mittagong, one of the foremost schools mi N.S. Wales.
Mr Jolin Cook,, Crown Lands Commisiosricr at Blenheim, lias been nppointed Commissioner at New Plymouth in place of Mr L. J. Lowe, recently transferred to North Auckland. i\lr Joan Stevenson, chief draughtsman at Hawkesbury, has been appointed Commissioner at Blenheim •*- ress Association.
Mr Geo. A. Green, Secretary of the Association of Nurserymen, who has been detained in Nelson for the last un-ee weeks as a result of a sudden illness, is now- convalescent and leaves for Wellington by to-night’s steamer, en icut/* to his home in Auckland.
