BRIGHTER OUTLOOK

SITUATION VIEWED MORE HOPEFULLY . (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association). LONDON, Sept. 7. The Daily Express Athens correspondent had an interview with M. Gonatas, who declared the situation better, because Greece had given every proof of good faith. What, after all, "does Italy want. First we accepted the League of Nations, then the Conference of Ambassadors and now the Hague Court,

In reply as to what Greece will do if Italy resisted all these efforts at a settjement, M. Gonatas replied that Greece v:ill then expect the League of Nations to enforce its decision as provided by the Covenant.

M. Gonatas denied the statements that the Government had asked the Serbians for military assistance in the eveut of a conflict. GENEVA, Sept, 8. The Council of the League of Nations is unlikely to further consider the question of Janina reparations, pending some intimation from Athens and Rome, in response to tho Ambassadors Conference Note to Greece. The question of the evacuation of Corfu and the competence of the League to deal therewith remains, as the satisfaction demanded from Greece is practically identical with the suggestions made by M. Politis and the Council. It is not thought Greece will decline nor Italy object.

The situation generally is viewed hope fully.
