“In a world full of tears he gave us clean, fresh laughter that left no sting behind it,” said Canon J. 0. Hannay, preaching to-day at the memorial service for the late Sir Charles Haw trey, the well-known comedy actor. Canon Hannay, who is better known by his literary pseudonym of George A. Birmingham, is the author of the comedy, “Send for I)r. O’Grady,” in which Sir Charles ITawtrey was appearing when he died. lie is also author of numerous novels, including “The Simpkins Plot,” “Spanish Gold,” and “General John Regan.”
