COAL SHORTAGE
IN CHRISTCHURCH
(By Telegraph.—Special to The Mail.)
CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. “Coal supplies are still very short. There is no improvement- in the position,” said the representative of a leading firm to-day, “and there will be none until shipments arrive from Australia. Our latest advice is that the miners will resume work to-morrow, bub probably we will not get any supplies from there until the third week in August. Shipments in sight in New Zealand are not worth speaking about. Nearly 40 per cent .of the men in the southern mines are off work through influenza.”
