ELECTION OF MAYOR
BY COUNCIL INSTEAD OF PEOPLE
REMIT FOR. MUNICIPAL CONFERENCE ! (United Press Association). WELLINGTON, This Day At a meeting of the City Council last night Councillor Forsyth moved that whereas the present town boards. county councils, harbour hoards, hospital boards, and education boards elect their own chairman, and as the municipal council is the only local authority that docs not possess this power, it be a remit - to tho next Municipal Conference that the mayor of every borough be elected by the council, and that the council's delegates be and arc hereby instructed to vote in favour of any motion to this effect put forward at the conference. After a brief discussion the motion was carried.
